[France - Greece] Accompany us on our family trip from the South of France to Greece! Taking your time to discover the Balkans on the way is an incredibly enriching experience in terms of landscapes and cultural history.
Hvar, Croatia
Hvar is home to beautiful sceneries of transparent waters, rock beaches, and singing cicadas. We spent entire days exploring the underwater life (sea stars, fish, sea cucumbers etc), reading good books, and simply admiring the surroundings.
If you have the opportunity to be accompanied by someone who knows the surroundings, you might find spots unknown to the public.
We recommend bringing water shoes, as the rocks can be very sharp. If that's your thing, there is even a nudist beach.
Lost somewhere in Serbia
If you go to Serbia, you HAVE to try the original Ćevapčići (pronounced Chevapchichi) with the ajvar sauce (pronounced aevar), traditional in the Balkan area. People in Serbia are extremely warm-hearted, especially in the little towns. They will welcome you with open arms.
We recommend renting a jeep if you decide to go explore the Serbian mountains. As the roads are made essentially of gravel, it can be dangerous with a standard car when it gets very steep.
Skiathos, Greece
As the roads of Skiathos are very bumpy, we rented a jeep here as well. The landscapes are truly breathtaking.
Expect to encounter random goat herds on the way!
