[Switzerland – Croatia] Find out how easy it is to discover the beautiful coastlines of Croatia by train. Especially the little harbours of the island Hvar hold cristal clear water.
From beautiful mountain views to crystal clear water
Our 2.5 week trip to the Adriatic coast started at 6pm in Zurich, where we boarded the Nightjet to Ljubljana.
We slept in a 6-bed room where we met a nice couple from France. After a few beers, a chat with our "roommates" and fresh coffee and breakfast in the morning, we arrived in beautiful Ljubljana at 8am.
After two days of exploring the city, we took another train to Zagreb, the capital of Croatia.
From Zagreb to Split
From Zagreb we took the Flixbus to Split (there are many leaving every day). The 4.5h ride to Split was beautiful and we were able to experience the change in vegetation, which became more Mediterranean the further south we went.
Once in Split, we were overwhelmed by the beautiful architecture of the old town, the vibe of the city and the good food.
Fresh fish, the best "Sopska Salata" and good olive oil. The atmosphere was just fantastic. After two days in Split, we decided to spend a few days on the island of Hvar, a few kilometers from Split.
From Split to Havar, Zadar, Pula and back to Zurich
Hvar is a real Mediterranean paradise. The water is crystal clear, you can see underwater up to 5 meters deep.
Accordingly, snorkeling is very beautiful, and the blue small fishes greet you every time you jump into the water. The people of Hvar are very hospitable and we felt at home as soon as we stepped on the island.
After two weeks of snorkeling, swimming, exploring cute little villages and old towns along the Croatian Adriatic coast, from Hvar-Split-Zadar-we arrived in Pula.
In Pula we experienced the old roman flair of the city when watching a Gladiator show in the old Amphi theater.
From there we jumpe on a Flixbus and headed back to Ljubljana, where we boarded the night train back to Zurich.
It was the best and most comfortable travel experience and I really recommend it!
