[Gruyère - Villars] This is how we travelled and disconnected from our daily life in Switzerland in only 4 days. This blog is not a recipe for success but it is as simple as cooking pasta, you will understand the reference when you read it.
Day one:
We all meet at the edge of the Gruyère lake at 7pm, I personally met up with Dimitri a long time friend and we rode together from Moudon during the afternoon. We had to carry our bikes because the road was under construction but mostly because we didn't respect the road signs. It's a bit silly, indeed, but it gave us something to talk about.
Meeting friends with a beer and some charred Merguez by a lake strengthens the bond.
Day two:
After a nice night in a tent we set off again. My knee hurts, but with my friends it always gets better. We stop at noon to eat at the Lac Noir in Fribourg. In the afternoon, things start to get serious. I had never done such a steep climb before.
But after 1h30 of intense effort we are rewarded with a great view and of course a descent. We cycle a few more kilometres and find a place to put the tent in the forest near a bar. Cheers, good appetizer and good night.
An intense effort clears your head better than a beer.
Day three:
Today the objective is to go to the Diableret to see the final match of the women's euro: Germany against England. Sometimes life can be simple. At noon, we decide unanimously to eat in front of the Louis Vuitton shop in Gstaad.
Great idea for a Sunday. Sitting on our camping chairs we cook pasta on the gas stove in front of the Louis Vuitton shop. I never thought I would write this sentence once. People laugh, take pictures of us or stare at us with a puzzled look.
The highlight comes when a French comedian with a hundred thousand fans Guillaume Bats comes up to us and asks us to take a picture with him on it saying that's the definition of audacity.
Is this the world upside down or what?
After this unexpected experience we set off again by bike to make the col du Pillon and around 5pm we arrive at the Diablerets on time for the match. Cheers, well done and good night.
You don't have to go very far to meet people and do unexpected things.
Day four:
After a last good night's sleep, we set off again for a final pass, the Col de la Croix towards Villars. Arrived in Villars we eat a good sausage of Vaud, yes it is the Swiss national holiday.
To sum up in 3 nights we spent 72 hours outside to ride, to sleep but mostly to be together and have fun.
It's not the number of kilometres on the bike that counts, nor the place, but the people you do it with.
